Do you have what it takes to excel at work? Most people try to answer this based on experience and skill set. And sure, they can both come in handy. But with the right attitude and a willingness to learn, hap has the tools to cover the rest and guide you to success.

Whether you’re eager to make your mark in a new industry or hone your skills in a familiar one, check out these four tips to succeeding on shift with hap.

1. Get organised

The techs and specs for a role can vary. Assuming one rule for all will soon leave you in the lurch, setting a bad tone for your shift before it’s even begun. The good news is that hap always ensures you have the information you need to get yourself set.

Just put aside a little time prior to your new assignment to read through the materials we’ve sent and ensure you know what’s needed from you. This can include sorting your own food and transport if they’re not already provided, or even making sure you’re dressed to impress.

2. Double-check the uniform

Turning up in the wrong uniform can leave you sticking out like a sore thumb, or worse, turned away from your shift completely. In industries like hospitality, appearance is everything. One scruffy employee can quite easily lead to one bad customer review.

For these kinds of roles, we require you to err on the side of smart. Usually, this includes a black or white shirt, smart black trousers, shoes and socks – and the toning down of any unsubtle make-up, piercings, jewellery and hair dos. Unsure for your next role? Don’t worry, we’ll provide you with all the finer details pre-assignment.

3. Take advantage of training

Landed yourself a job without all the necessary skills? At hap, this isn’t viewed as a problem, but an opportunity.

When you passed your initial interview with us, you gained complete access to hap Academy HQ, our free training programme. But don’t let the lack of a fee fool you; we’re talking six nationally recognised courses here. From hospitality, bar and Scottish mandatory license training to health and safety, customer service and catering, our courses don’t just fix up your next shift – they help secure your future.

4. Boost your mindset

The mind is a powerful thing. In fact, it’s everything. If your head isn’t in tune, your work won’t be either.

One of the biggest barriers to achieving a positive mindset is the absence of communication, clarity and instruction – enough to send anyone into a tizzy! That’s why our on-site staffing team is there to fill in all the blanks on the day. Rather than just plonking you into a placement, hap is on location for you to turn to whenever you need us.

Ready, set, work!

How’s that for a debrief? Hopefully we answered a few questions and quelled a few doubts. Remember, all you need is the motivation to put your name forward and hap will make sure you’re ready to succeed!

Don’t be afraid to try something new either, we’ve got you covered. Book a shift from the huge selection of vacancies on offer here, and follow our socials for more handy tips and updates. You can find us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
